Ambassador Carla A. Hills, chair of the National Committee on United States China Relations and chair and CEO of Hills and Company, delivered the 2010 Barnett-Oksenberg Lecture on March 2 in Shanghai. Entitled U.S.-China Relations: Challenges and Opportunities, her primary theme was that the two countries must develop a habit of meeting together regularly. A number of the worlds most pressing problems can only be solved if China and the United Sates work together. Thus, we must not let the inevitable issues that will arise between us given our different histories, cultures, and values, get in the way of both countries meeting together regularly and often.

Now in its fifth year, the annual Barnett-Oksenberg Lecture on Sino-American Relations provides a forum for frank and forthright discussion of current and potential issues between the two counties and is the first and only ongoing lecture series in China on U.S.-China Relations. The National Committees co-sponsor for the event is the Shanghai Association of American Studies. The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai provides logistical support.
