In order to make high quality time-lapse videos, I spent the last year learning and experimenting. Here's a quick list of the things I use to make my time-lapse videos not look like 💩.

Camera with Interval Shooting:
Interval shooting is designed to capture a series of images at predetermined intervals. I personally use Sony’s a6400 mirrorless camera. The time-lapse setting built in your phone will not produce the best quality for editing so it's worth investing in a proper camera.

Lighting with DC Power:
Okay, so hear me out on this one!

Flicker can be an issue when using artificial lighting sources. Flicker refers to the fluctuation in brightness that can occur due to variations in the power supply frequency. This is caused by the alternating current (AC) power.

The flicker may not be noticeable to the naked eye, but it can become apparent in the individual frames of a time-lapse. Unlike AC, which oscillates between positive and negative voltages, DC provides a more stable and constant power supply.

I bought the Neewer Bi-color 660 LED Video Light Kit. It has an AC to DC converter box built in.

Tripod with Horizontal Arm: Knocking your camera because it's in your way constantly will create shaky photos and will be a pain to edit out. This will save you so much headache. I use the K&F Concept 238cm Overhead Tripod.

Filming in Raw: Raw files contain more information than compressed formats like JPEG. This extra data allows for better image quality. It overall just helps you capture a broader range of tones and colours, allowing you to recover more detail from shadows and highlights while colour grading in your editing software.

A Professional Editing Software:
I use Davinci Resolve Studio for editing.

The deflicker feature helps to take out any leftover flicker in your shots. This is only available in the paid version.

The next feature is the colour grading. I import all my DNG raw photos into the editor. Then in the colour grading section you can adjust everything in the clip feature. No need to edit each individual file! All you need to do is play around with the sliders (saturation, contrast, brightness). Don't skip this step!
