In this video, we are taking you to the local island Villingili, or Vilimale island to see the real maldives and see how the locals lives their life and explore the local island environment.

Maldives is everyone’s dream holiday destination, with lots of luxury hotels and resorts. If you just come here for luxury holiday and want to relax and wind down in the resort, yes, please go straight to the private islands where all the resorts are. However, we did it differently, we wanted to know the real Maldives, and wanted to see the culture, how the people live their life here.

There is a local island called Villingili island, also known as Vilimale island, its only 10 mins ferry ride from the west end of Male city ferry terminal. The island is small, you can walk the entire island within 15 mins, it’s quiet, and very green, and very environmentally friendly, no petrol car, their motor bike and council cars run on the batteries.

We planned to have lunch there, however, we did not find the food we like, as we only saw two coffee shops, with limited food selections. So we ended up having lunch back at the hotel.

Overall, it’s nice, quiet island, I even feel the simpleness of their life. No modern shops, nothing, pure village lifestyle. I cannot imagine myself live there, but somehow you feel the peacefulness and simpleness. I think the people might live longer life due to the stress-free environment.
