Thermally toughened glass is used in many applications, like the windshield of your car, touchscreen of your smartphone or the explosion resistant lighting utilized in harsh environments such as coal mines and oil rigs. Tempered glass, commonly referred to as safety glass, is used in these applications.

Glass can be strengthened using a controlled heating and cooling process which will make it more resistant to mechanical and thermal stress over standard annealed glass, without altering other characteristics such as light transmission, specific gravity or coefficient of expansion.

Kopp offers a thermal toughening process to customers who's product may be exposed to extreme thermal conditions or subject to impact or pressure. Other characteristics such as shape, thickness and material can impact the efficiency of thermal toughening. For a fully optimized product, partner with Kopp during the early stages of your design.
