Any good photo needs the camera to be steadied: the optical flow positioning is the FX-179’s way of doing that, letting you set a particular position for the drone, which will then stick to it perfectly. In layman’s terms the drone takes a snapshot of the ground underneath it so it has a reference point of where to go back to in case it starts to drift and gives it a much more stable hover than drones without this feature.

Facial and Target Tracking: as the name suggests facial tracking allows the drone to recognise an individual’s facial features and track them, meaning that if it has your face in its system, it can follow you to make sure you’re always in sight. Target tracking allows you to lock onto anything and have the drone either hover, follow or orbit it. Great for creating visually dynamic videos and getting awesome panoramic moments.

Headless mode: This feature is always welcome in a drone, and basically lets you move the drone left and right relative to you, rather than relative to the drone, meaning that you’ll never get confused about which way it’s facing (which is super-useful if you are new to flying drones!).
