Описание к видео Why has my toddler been coughing since going to the pool? Is it "dry drowning"?

Almost all parents have had some sort of incident with a toddler where they go underwater for just a second, whether it be the bathtub or swimming pool and you lift them out of the water and they gasp and they're fine. They seem to be fine. But there are some instances where children or adults alike go under the water and get water into their lungs and it can cause damage or it can cause their airway to spasm, both of which decrease oxygenation to the body and in some cases, if it's long enough, to the brain. A lot of people use the term "near drowning" or "dry drowning." This can happen when a child doesn't seem to have an actual drowning event where they were found under the water unconscious or something. But they start to develop symptoms after the incident, like maybe a fever, an unusual cough, a whistling noise when they breathe in and out; maybe shortness of breath, rapid breathing, a decreased level of consciousness. They're just not acting like they usually do. All of these symptoms are signs that you should get your child checked out. You mentioned that your little toddler went under the water for just a second last week and has seemed to be fine but has had a cough. It would be best to bring this up with the pediatrician. Tell them exactly what happened and then they can decide if further investigation or treatments are warranted. Good luck with everything though and if you have any other questions for me, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at facebook.com/intermountainmoms and recommend us to your friends and family, too.
