If you want something in your life, then that dream automatically starts following you. Mr. S. Kalyan Basavaraj is one such person who has dreamt of being a successful advocate of Karnataka and he made it. Although being a BSc. student. He went against all the norms and pursued LLB (law studies).
Mr. S. Kalyan Basavaraj: I extend my heartiest wishes on the eve of Ugadi festival to the entire members of the legal faculty. I hope that all the learned members of the Bar would be graced on this auspicious occasion.
Aaisha Aslam: Sir Can you tell me what fascinated you that you have turned to law studies although being a Science (BSc.) student?S
Mr. S. Kalyan Basavaraj: I found that the lawyer’s profession is the most independent of all the learned professions. And there is lot of focus in this profession and lawyers owe lot of responsibility towards the society. These things I think probably prompted me to take up this noble profession.
Aaisha Aslam: Being in this profession for 31 years, and in that you have handled allotment and land acquisition cases for 15 years, have you ever faced any life threats during any particular case?
Mr. S. Kalyan Basavaraj: No No never. I have never faced any life threats in the course of my profession. No no life threat. I have enjoyed this profession.
Aaisha Aslam: As you are going to participate in State Bar Council of Karnataka in the coming election, what is your agenda and is there any plan for the improvement of the state?
Mr. S. Kalyan Basavaraj: It is not exactly the development of the state, it is sort of contribution to the fraternity of lawyers. And the State Bar Council is the statutory body and it regulates the functioning of the advocates, we need to play major role being elected members of the State Bar Council. The young lawyers who enter the Bar, needs to be tuted properly to the assisted courts and there’s lack of assistance to the younger advocates, particularly rural area. Every district is to be appointed with the law academy, where efficient and senior advocates should be employed or requested to teach the young advocates so that they can affect in the assisted court, that is my primary agenda.
And I have noticed and heard about the competence regarding the…lot of discrepancies in the matter of disbursement of the compensations to the lawyers upon their death and medical times. And that needs to be addressed after constituting an expert community which goes up with the issue and take a petition and such disbursement shall be commensurate with the contribution to the lawyers for fixing this stance. This is my second agenda.
And my third agenda is, now the values and ethics are deteriorating, that is a serious threat to the entire fraternity. And due to pendency of litigation is the reason why the appointment of judges are decided both in the higher judiciary and lower judiciary. The people are losing confidence in the system and the litigations have been transferred to the police stations, where virtually the police have become arbitrators. This is a serious threat to the entire system and particularly to the young advocates and the mighty people will get desisted and the poor people will be deprived of justice. In this justice, my handover is to see that proper measures are taken up to check the litigation being transferred elsewhere from the legal facility. Namaste!
