The fourth installment in the Super Mario Bros. series, Super Mario World was the first to make use of the advanced hardware capabilities of the SNES. In particular, the ability to play up to eight (!) sounds simultaneously and the use of instrument samples was used to great effect by the composer Koji Kondo. Reflecting that, this is the first GSO small ensemble to make use of four types of clarinet: the EH clarinet, the BH clarinet, the EH alto clarinet, and the BH bass clarinet.
