There are times when we realize some fellow Canadians don’t seem to care that we live in a shared society as much as they care about never having to experience a personal inconvenience.

This is one of those times.

As dry, hot weather fuelled by climate change creates the perfect conditions for raging wildfires, provinces on the east coast decided to tell residents to stay out of the woods.

Of course, because they were asked to make a small, temporary sacrifice to keep their community safe, some grown men launched into a huge temper tantrum.

This comes after right-wing media has, for years, fuelled claims that arsonists — rather than climate change — carry most of the blame for these raging wildfires. That is demonstrably false.

Still, it’s a tempting narrative for someone who wants to justify never having to face hard realities that require personal sacrifice.
