http://92yamericanconversation.org | As part of our ongoing partnership with the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, we spoke with Senior Fellow Shelby Steele about the changes he sees in the minority community from the times of the civil rights movement to today.

Steele thinks things begin to change for minorities after the mid 60′s, from a focus on the individual to being "dependent on the government."

"If we don't get exaggerated programs of government intervention, we feel victimized, we feel that the world is returning to that old era of racism...I don't believe it is, I believe that the society has moved beyond that."

Steele also urges the minority community to take responsibility for themselves and demand a better education system.
