Wrongfully convicted killer, Jeff Titus, is now a free man.

Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting announced Thursday that he is dropping Titus' murder charges; charges that still loomed over the 71-year-old Battle Creek man, despite being released from prison in February when newly-found evidence suggested he may be innocent.

When Getting announced that the murder case has been dismissed, Titus hung his head in emotion and applause broke out.

"I am glad to be an innocent man now and get on with my life. I can't describe what it feels like. I am shaking all inside. I am ecstatic," he said. "... I did not do it. I am a totally innocent man."

A fair trial could not move forward, according to Getting.

"I don’t know ultimately in this instance who murdered Mr. Estes or Mr. Bennett. I don’t. I can’t. I can’t say with confidence who did it. I can say with 100% certainly that moving forward with a trial today with Mr. Titus would absolutely be lacking with the Constitution requires, the principles that prosecutor live by require," Getting said. "... There is not a fair process that can be used moving forward with a trial.”
