Iran swiftly responded to the US claim regarding the ship attack near India, offering clarification on its position. Tehran unequivocally denied any involvement in the drone strike targeting a tanker off the Indian coast, dismissing the accusations as baseless. The incident occurred on December 23 when a drone struck Japan's commercial ship 'MV Chem Pluto' near Porbandar, Gujarat, causing a fire onboard and damaging the vessel's stern. Fortunately, there were no casualties among the crew, and the Indian Navy and coast promptly responded to assist the ship. The US Pentagon attributed the attack to a "one-way attack drone fired from Iran," stating that the Chem Pluto, flagged under Liberia and operated by a Dutch entity, was "linked" to Israel and traveling from Saudi Arabia to India. Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson, Nasser Kanaani, refuted the US accusation. The attack took place 200 nautical miles off the coast of India, near Veraval, and the likelihood of it originating from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen was deemed low.
