BEST GROWING MEDIUM FOR SEEDS STARTING | Coco Coir

Starting seeds can be a difficult process. And we know it is also a very crucial first step in gardening.

When seeds fail to germinate, many factors come to play. For today's video, we will focus on one main factor, choice of growing medium. What should you use, soil? compost? Peat moss? Sphagnum Moss?

I have tried a variety of growing mediums for seeds starting. I have to say coco coir or coco peat is definitely one of my favourite. Typically you will buy the coco coir in blocks - you then need to soak the coco block in water for the coir to disintegrate into a powdery form. If you are able to buy them in powder form, it will save you some preparation time.

Coco coir is superior in water retaining capacity, yet at the same time fast to drain out excess liquid so this means it will not flood your pot. The coco coir is also fluffy and lightweight this is so important to support aeration of seedling roots. Combine all these properties, coco coir has all the essential elements for starting seeds right!

Also to add that coco coir is a by product of coconut, this makes it completely organic and sustainable, a perfect choice for organic container garden.
