KEYNOTE SPEECH: GLOBAL STRATEGY | Janez Janša

Janez Janša is a prominent Slovenian politician known for his influential role in the country's politics. Born on September 17, 1958, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, he has been a central figure in Slovenian politics for several decades.

Janša's political career began during the late 1980s when Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia. He was actively involved in the democratic movements that played a significant role in the dissolution of Yugoslavia and the establishment of an independent Slovenia in 1991.

Throughout his career, Janša has held various important positions in Slovenian politics. He has served as the Prime Minister of Slovenia on multiple occasions, first from 2004 to 2008 and later from 2012 to 2013. His political journey has been marked by his leadership in the center-right Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS), which he helped establish in 1989.

Janša is recognized for his conservative and pro-European Union political stance. During his terms as Prime Minister, he played a pivotal role in steering Slovenia's economic and political developments, advocating for pro-market reforms and strengthening ties with Western European countries.

The Croatian Centre for the Renewal of Culture (Centar za obnovu
kulture – COK) hosted New Direction's 2023 Summer University
from Tuesday 11 to Friday 14 July at the Hotel Dubrovnik in Zagreb.

An intense and decisive struggle is underway in Europe and beyond.
Reheated versions of old-fashioned Socialism and New Left
movements, masquerading as liberal, are trying to subvert
traditional Western values. That confrontation involves not just
government but nationhood and the identity of the human person.
How can conservatives fight back and win? What issues must we
address? What messages should we press? Our Summer University dealt with all this – working from first principles and historic
experience.

Distinguished international and local speakers addressed the
following themes in a series of lectures, accompanied by a panel
discussions:
