A year ago, we packed 8 suitcases, said goodbye to jobs, family, and friends, and started fresh in Galicia, Spain. What a ride it’s been!
Most people think of Spain as flamenco, tapas, and sunny beaches… but Galicia is something else entirely. It’s wild, green, full of mountains, rivers, waterfalls, castles, and an ocean that crashes against the cliffs with a power you can feel in your bones.
In just one year we’ve shared wine with Vikings, danced to Christmas music in A Coruña, chased sunsets with mermaids, stood by centuries-old churches, hiked past windmills and wild horses, and celebrated life in fiestas, carnavales, and rapa das bestas.
We bought the Galloper, bought a house, and made friends and neighbors who welcomed us with churrascadas, sardinadas, and plenty of coffee (and wine, of course!). We’ve cheered at fireworks, soaked in concerts, explored Barcelona and Madrid, and still come home amazed by Galicia’s magic.
More than anything, we feel lucky — blessed, really — to spend this time focusing on us. We miss our family and friends, but being here together has given us space for health, happiness, and the freedom to live life on our own terms.
If year one gave us Vikings, mermaids, wild horses, and endless fiestas… we can’t wait to see what year two throws at us.
