The Karnataka High Court dismissed Twitter's petition challenging ten blocking orders issued by the Indian government, which demanded the removal of 39 links between February 2021 and 2022. Union Minister of State Rajeev Chandrasekhar emphasized the importance of all platforms adhering to Indian law and stated that Twitter, under former CEO Jack Dorsey, had refused to comply with these regulations. The court, through Justice Krishna S Dixit, imposed the fine due to Twitter's failure to provide any reasoning for its non-compliance with the government's orders. Twitter's request to stay the operation of the order was also denied. The court instructed Twitter to pay the fine within 45 days, with an additional penalty of Rs 5,000 for each day of delay. This development highlights the ongoing tensions between social media platforms and the Indian government regarding content regulation and compliance with local laws.
