Learn the English phrases SWEPT AWAY and SWEPT OFF YOUR FEET - An English Lesson with Subtitles

So in this English lesson I want to help you learn the English phrase, swept away. You can be swept away by something like a river. Yesterday I showed you the river that was in the background. You can be physically swept away. If the current in a river is really, really strong. But you can also be swept away emotionally. You could say that whenever you see a field of beautiful flowers, you're just swept away. Maybe you have visited a place in your country, that's just really beautiful. Maybe there's a mountain, or maybe there's a large beach or ocean. And whenever you see it, you're just swept away. So in English you can be physically swept away. I'm actually sitting here huddled against the barn because it's extremely windy today. And I didn't want to be swept away by the wind. But you can also be swept away emotionally.

The other phrase I wanted to look at today is the phrase to be swept off your feet. Now, this has to do with the emotion of love. When you meet a person in life that you just really really like. And after spending some time with them, you fall in love with them. We could say that you have been swept off your feet. So this often happens in older movies. You'll see a scene where the girl or the guy meets someone and very quickly they enjoy each other's company. And then they fall in love and they are swept off their feet. So when you are swept away by something, you can be physically swept away by the current in the ocean. You could be emotionally swept away by something that you see that is beautiful. When you are swept off your feet, it simply means that you have fallen in love with someone.

So I hope that at some point in your life, you can see something beautiful and be swept away. And I hope that all of you, at some point have been swept off your feet by someone So it's really cool experience to know that someone really loves you.

Hey, let's look at a comment from yesterday's video. This comment is from Brent, who is American English with this guy on YouTube. And he says, "I think that's true about a body of water recharging us. Thankfully, I only live about 30 minutes from the Atlantic ocean, but each time I visit, I have almost a renewed spirit. And my response was I have a similar experience when I'm at the lake. I think the waves are what I like the best. The sound of waves is one of my favorite sounds." Well, thank you for that comment Brent, this comes from a video a couple of days ago, where I'm sitting in front of the river. Might've been yesterday's video. And I was mentioning how water just kind of soothes my soul. And Brent is kind of mentioning the same thing here. There's something about large bodies of water. There's something about the ocean or a river for me, it's definitely the sound of wave. So anyways, thanks Brent for that comment. It is beautiful to just go and to hear things like the ocean.

Hey, I did wanna leave you with this though. I got a haircut today. If you are watching this, I guess you're watching this on Tuesday. It's actually Monday right now. This is the first day of school. So I have got my first day of school haircut. I'll tell you a little secret. I'm a little worried about school because when I wear a mask, students will not be able to see my facial expressions. I'll show you some of my facial expressions. This means good job. This means you're not doing what you're supposed to be doing. This means I'm getting a little bit tired of your behavior. But students won't be able to see anything but my eyes. And I think my eyes no matter what I do, I think my eyes always look happy, but maybe that's a good thing. Anyways, I am starting school, I am looking forward to it. I think it will be good. Again, I do have a little bit of nerves. I'm feeling a little bit nervous because there is still COVID around. Cases in Ontario, Canada are relatively low, but I do have to say I am still a little bit worried, but we'll see, I think it will go good. I'll practice my facial expressions while wearing my mask.
