Hi! I’m Aaron Poynton. I hope this message finds you in high spirits as we gear up for an exciting new academic year. I am honored to introduce myself as the new President of the Board of Education, along with our new Vice President, Melissa Hahn. As we step into our new roles, we feel a deep sense of responsibility and dedication to our educational community. As such, we would like to lay out some of our thoughts and priorities.
With steadfast dedication, our foremost goal is to ensure academic achievement for every student, empowering them to excel in their educational journey and future endeavors. Our vision is to inspire and prepare each student for success in college and career. With an unwavering commitment to our vision, all other activities and initiatives shall be aligned and support each student's academic achievement and preparation, as our top priority.
Prioritizing our students’ holistic well-being is fundamental to our overarching academic achievement goal. We are deeply committed to ensuring student safety and security, creating nurturing environments free from fear, and fostering growth. Recognizing the crucial role of mental health in their overall development and success, we actively encourage open conversations about it, breaking down stigmas and providing access to essential resources. By collaborating with parents and guardians, as well as mental health professionals, we aim to establish effective support systems and early intervention strategies, caring for our students’ mental health and emotional well-being with diligence.
One of our core beliefs is the importance of parental rights in education. Parents and guardians are essential partners in the learning journey of their children. Their involvement and support are invaluable in fostering a nurturing and conducive learning environment. As we make decisions that shape the future of our schools, we will actively seek input from parents and guardians to ensure their voices are heard and respected. This will lead to better alignment between our school’s objectives and the aspirations of the families we serve.
Transparency, accountability, and trust are also vital to the success of any organization, and our school system is no exception. We pledge to foster an environment of openness and honesty, ensuring that information is readily available to all stakeholders. By doing so, we can build trust and work collaboratively towards common goals. This will also enable us to learn from our successes and challenges, continuously improving our approach to education.
Establishing productive working relationships with all stakeholders will be a cornerstone of our leadership. We believe that our success lies in our ability to work as a cohesive team, each contributing unique talents and perspectives. This includes not only teachers, faculty, and staff but also students, parents and guardians, community members, government officials, and local organizations. By creating a unified front, we can pool our resources, expertise, and enthusiasm to propel Harford County Public Schools to the forefront of educational excellence in Maryland.
In pursuit of our visionary future, we must remain fiscally responsible, demonstrating prudence as custodians of the taxpayers' contributions that fund our school system. With zeal and determination, we will advocate for the necessary funding to achieve our goals while seeking out inefficiencies and redundancies to streamline our operations. Additionally, we look forward to forging new partnerships and seizing opportunities with the community and other government entities, fostering collaboration to pave the way for a more financially sustainable and thriving educational system.
Together, we will continue to create a nurturing and supportive environment that fosters academic excellence and personal growth. Together, we can build a stronger educational community. Together, let us create a legacy of excellence that will serve as a guiding light for future generations.
