Steven Designs JP59 Humbuckers with flipped neck magnet.

I cannot quite believe this set of Stevens JP59 has settled into my Les Paul and I have no longer the urge to fuel my PAF alike obsession. I had tried out many, many boutique sets (all of them good) but the feel and tone in my personal head space was never quite in synch. Then I tried a couple of sets of Stevens Designs pickups: a PG set (I was sure I was going to keep) and a JP set which I was not sure I was going to like. I had already spoken to Dave Stephens about the JP's (Jimmy Page's pre t'top spec set) and he felt that he was fed the wrong wind specs particularly for the JP59 neck pickup (which he told me he'd in retrospect take a couple of hundred winds off to keep it cleaner). Though he did tell me the set contained very good wire! As it turned out, having no desire at all to try and emulate Page's neck sound, I loved the neck and bridge pickups just as they were. I did just want to try one thing though. I love the 'out of phase' sound ala - T Bone Walker, Peter Green and Snowy White, so I flipped the neck magnet to see how it would sound in the middle postion. I was most pleased with the results. So after years of searching I have a set that are hopefully staying in this guitar. Now all I need to do is actually play the guitar instead of tinkering with it!
Talking of tinkering. The Guitar in question is an early 2002 Les Paul Standard with VIP Pots and 1960s Back beauty caps. I am plugged straight into my amp, a Magnatone Varsity Cathedral, with a little attenuation and reverb. Thanks for listening and have a great 2021!
