CR1616 vs CR2025: The Difference Between CR1616 & CR2025 Tabbed Gameboy Save Batteries [Comparison]

The main difference between CR2025 save batteries and CR1616 save batteries is that CR2025 batteries hold about three times as much capacity as CR1616s, and the 2025s are a few millimeters thicker than the 1616s.

Gameboy game manufacturers used these internal batteries to store save data. As the game would be played, this battery would lose charge until it ran dry and the save information on that battery would be lost forever.

Because CR1616 batteries and CR2025 batteries have the same voltage, they can be used interchangeably. However, because 2025s are a few millimeters thicker than the 1616s, they might not fit in cartridges that originally included 1616s.
