As we began our continuation of our ‘Pursuit of a 3lbs Grayling’ in chapter 1 of ‘A Winter’s Tale’,
memories of the sheer quality of last winter’s fishing were still reasonably fresh in our minds. With
these fond memories came a sense of scepticism as to whether this winter can live up to hype
created by last.

If our first session of the winter was anything to go by, then the answer may be a resounding ‘no’. A
very tough day, hampered by bright sun and a low, clear river proved slightly challenging, and only a
couple of modest fish found their way into our net. However, ever the optimists (well, at least one of
us is), chapter 2 provides another bite at the cherry.

This time we can’t blame the conditions. Will
today produce that specimen fish for which this river is renowned?
