A United States general reveals that Russia possesses the most varied nuclear arsenal globally.

In a prepared statement to the US Senate’s Armed Forces Committee, Air Force General Anthony Cotton, the head of the US Strategic Command, emphasized that Russia presents a significant challenge to America's military supremacy. Moscow not only already surpasses Washington in nuclear capabilities but is also actively modernizing its arsenal.

General Cotton expressed concern about the growing threat posed by Russia, along with China, against the US and its allies in various domains. He noted that the pace of these developments is accelerating, surpassing the rates observed just a few years ago.

Referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent statement in early February, General Cotton highlighted that Russia claims to have "almost completely modernized" its strategic nuclear forces. The naval component of the country's nuclear deterrence triad has reportedly undergone nearly 100% upgrades.

Cotton underscored that Russia currently holds the world's largest and most diverse nuclear arsenal. He specifically pointed to Moscow's possession of Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles and advanced submarines capable of carrying nuclear weapons.

The US general further noted that Moscow is not only expanding but also modernizing its nuclear options beyond the traditional nuclear triad. He brought attention to the Kinzhal and Tsirkon hypersonic missiles, both of which he claimed could carry nuclear payloads.

Highlighting the challenges faced by the US strategic forces, Cotton warned that the combination of Russia and China, along with North Korea's and Iran's nuclear ambitions, adds unprecedented complexity to strategic calculations. He urged senators to support the rapid upgrade of the US arsenal, emphasizing the critical need to continue modernizing the nuclear triad at an accelerated pace.
