Are you moving to Florida and wondering if owning a private pool is worth the time and money spent taking care of it? Is owning a swimming pool a good investment? What about the maintenance, the equipment, the costs, and so on? There is so much to know and I'm gonna help you out!

We live in Florida, where the summers are long and intense- And with gas prices up, it could be a good investment to save on hours of traveling back and forth to your nearest bodies of water to cool off.

If you're looking to have a brand new swimming pool installed, the prices will vary, so you'll need to contact your local pool companies for pricing- but it doesn't hurt to have a list of things ready before having this conversation.

1. Establish what size swimming pool will fit your needs best.

2. What type of finish do you prefer? There is a wide range of choices, each with different durability and appearances from porcelain to glass tile.

3. What upgrades are you considering for a brand new swimming pool? Some popular options are:
Automatic leveler- Automatically refills the swimming pool when water evaporates.
LED Lights- For swimming at night or to change the color of the pool.
Automatic pool cover- Safety feature ensuring no one is using the pool when it's off limits.
Screen Enclosures- Protects swimming pool from critters.
Installing slides and diving boards- Brings additional fun to your swimming experience.

4. What about equipment?
Do you want to upgrade to a salt system?
Pool heaters can be a great feature, especially if you live in a region that's not typically warm all year long.
If you're under contract for a house with a pool, I recommend have a pool inspection by a licensed contractor, to check the equipment. Knowing how much serviceable life is left on things like the pool pump, filter and heater will be beneficial.

5. Maintenance has to be done weekly, so if this isn't something that aligns with your schedule, go ahead and get pricing for cleaning from your local pool company.

6. It's rare that an appraiser will give back everything you've put into having a swimming pool installed, so dig deep into determining if this is a good business investment for you.

7. When weighing out the pros and cons of owning a swimming pool, don't forget to consider its worth to your lifestyle and enjoyment!
