Thank you for joining us for the premiere of the twelfth episode of Music Appreciation Series: Oboe and English Horn!

Today is all about the two gorgeous woodwind instruments! Dr. C had a perfect partner for this conversation in Mr. Brian Seaton. Brian is a performer and a teacher, and one of the only American trained oboe makers and a Master Repairman at North America Oboe House.

Brian Seaton has a combination of skills and experience rarely encountered in the music industry. His training is a unique combination of performing; oboe making, and countless hours devoted to the art of instrument finishing and repair.

Brian completed the Honors Bachelor of Music degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and the Master of Music degree from Florida State University. His principal teachers have been Jim Mason and Dr. Eric Ohlsson.

Brian`s life revolves around oboe, and his wonderful and super talented wife, violinist Andrea Pettigrew. In this interview, Brian told us more about his beloved instruments, how he is spending days in the mountains near Ashville, how long it takes to cut a reed he`d be using for playing the oboe, as well as some interesting and fun things you probably never knew about the oboe.
