Guys, I guess you all know that Rafizi's son was targeted in an attack yesterday.
What happened in that shopping mall car park at 1:45 pm is something no parent should ever have to endure. Two figures, faceless behind black motorcycle helmets, masks, and sunglasses, descended on Rafizi Ramli’s young son with chilling precision. In a moment that can only be described as calculated malice, they restrained him and used a syringe before speeding away, vanishing into the shadows of a justice system too often defined by its silences. It is more than an attack on one family; it is a symptom of something rotten in the way power, fear, and impunity intersect in this country.
This was not a crime of passion or an act of chance. It was deliberate, sending an unmistakable message: that those with malice, resources, and the will to harm can pierce even the most private, sacred spaces of a life. Political disagreements, no matter how heated, have no place here. Children are meant to be off-limits, spared from the ugly battles of adults. To target a child in such a way is to cross a line that should never even be approached. It is a violation of trust, of decency, and of the unspoken rules that should bind any society together.
What happened will not fade quickly from memory, nor should it. It forces us to confront uncomfortable truths about our nation’s tolerance for wrongdoing when power shields the guilty from consequence. The international community sees it, ordinary Malaysians feel it, and the political class—perhaps for the first time—knows it can happen to them too. There is no excuse, no justification, no way to soften the horror of what happened. And as much as we can hope for justice, we must also hope for a reckoning, so that no child—Rafizi’s or anyone else’s—ever finds themselves in the crosshairs of such cruelty again.
