Industry standards and detector manufacturer guidelines state that you need to use a safe and approved method of testing to avoid damage to heat detectors. Heat guns, hair dryers and cigarette lighters are not approved methods of testing and use of such test methods risks damage to the detector and could question the competency of the fire alarm engineer.
