'52 Degrees' is an Arabic-language podcast dedicated to exploring environmental issues and sustainability within the Middle East. Hosted by leading environmental expert Samia Alduaij, '52 Degrees' will provide a platform for meaningful conversations and insights into the region's unique challenges and opportunities.

This episode focuses on the relationship between climate and tourism. Travel and tourism are growing industries which have an impact on our environment and our climate and, in turn, can be affected by climate and environmental change. In some countries, the tourism sector is considered one of the most prominent sources of national income. However, climate change is altering the tourism map around the world. This has been linked to the growth of and support for more ‘sustainable tourism’ practices. According to the World Tourism Organization, sustainable tourism is defined as “tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities”. Can sustainable tourism be promoted? What is the extent of the impact of climate change on tourism in different countries around the world? What is the impact of tourism on our climate and environment? We put these questions to our guest Professor Andre Bechara, Eco-tourism Coordinator at the Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon.

فالسياحة كصناعة آخذة بالنمو، هي مؤثرة بلا شك في المناخ ، وتتأثر به ايضا ، فالعلاقة هنا من الطرفين.
وكون هذه الصناعة تعتبر احد ابرز مصادر الدخل لبعض الدول، الا ان المناخ، وتغيراته اصبح يغير خارطة السياحة عالميا، الامر الذي استدعى الى ظهور مصطلح السياحة المستدامة، وتعزيزها.
وهي وفقا لتعريف منظمة السياحة العالمية”السياحة التي تراعي بصورة كاملة آثارها الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والبيئية الحالية والمقبلة، وتلبي احتياجات الزوار والصناعة والبيئة والمجتمعات المضيفة“.
يمكن تعزيز السياحة المستدامة؟وما مدى تأثير التغيرات المناخية على السياحة في مختلف دول العالم؟ وما مدى تأثير السياحة في المناخ كذلك؟ كلها أسئلة نطرحها على ضيفنا
