Playa del Carmen is known mainly for white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and a laid back bohemian vibe. Not too long ago it was a fishing village but has now become the #1 destination in Mexico. This beautiful city rests on the eastern coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, about 70 km south of Cancun. All the action revolves around Quinta Avenida or “Fifth Avenue,” the town’s main pedestrian thoroughfare located just off the beach. Packed with all manner of stores, bars, and restaurants, it transforms into a buzzing hotspot at night.

Fifth Avenue, in Playa del Carmen is approximately 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) long. It stretches parallel to the coast, running north to south. The avenue begins at Paseo del Carmen Shopping Mall (south end), and continues to grow all the way to Calle 70 Norte next to the Colosio Avenue access to the beach.
