Former speaker of the House Bronwyn Bishop has taken a stab at Treasurer Jim Chalmers for his “own version of dishonesty”.

The budget update on Wednesday revealed the Albanese government has set aside $5.5 billion to spend in the lead-up to the next election.

“There was no way in the world that the snake Chalmers was going to bring down another budget,” Ms Bishop told Sky News host James Macpherson.

“He [Chalmers] was there today with his own version of dishonesty.”
