An investigation is underway in Texas after a photo surfaced on social media showing students sitting on the floor of a school bus, a practice that is against state law. The incident has sparked concerns about student safety and communication within the Crowley Independent School District.

Makayla Lyons, a parent in the district, recounted the situation after receiving a call from her son, a ninth grader, who was on the bus. "My son called me and he's like I see him like just his face- and then he's like mom, you got a call and figure something out because we're sitting on the floor. We're on like a bus with no seats," said Lyons.

Her son, who is not being identified due to his age, explained that the bus was not their usual one and was already full. "I see even people sitting in the back or the people that got on the bus before me I saw them sitting down. I'm like, where are the seats? I saw the ramp and I'm just like so we're sitting down on the floor," he said. He noted that four students ended up sitting on the floor.

Crowley ISD stated that they were unaware of the situation until it was brought to their attention via social media. The district said that the 28-passenger bus had only 16 students on board, with seats available.

KTVT reports that Crowley ISD did not receive any formal complaints from parents. The district has since met with the bus driver and monitor to address the issue. However, Lyons expressed her dissatisfaction with the district's handling of the situation. "So a little bit disappointed in Crowley ISD, I would say that," she said.
