Anton (or Antonio) Diabelli (5 September 1781 – 8 April 1858) was an Austrian music publisher, editor and composer. Best known in his time as a publisher, he is most familiar today as the composer of the waltz on which Ludwig van Beethoven wrote his set of thirty-three Diabelli Variations.

The offertory Angelus ad pastors, closely follows the spirit of the text of Saint Luke, speaks of the appearance of the angel to the shepherds and their decision to arrive in Bethlehem to adore the Child. All this is love and brings to mind the whole landscape of Christmas in the cradle of the Austrian Tyrol.

The composer focuses on the countryside, with the darkness of the night and the shepherds (minor key, woodwind), then the angel (high sopranos), then the shepherds again (the men's voices) and finally the Holy Family (pastoral theme).
