What was truly revolutionary for the time was that it was the first fully electrically operated dock in the United Kingdom. It was a marvel of early 20th-century engineering, built jointly by two rival railway companies—a symbol of Yorkshire's determination to compete on the global stage.

The Container Giants: Look out for the towering, brightly coloured ship-to-shore gantry cranes. These are a modern, iconic sight of the dock, and they signal one of its main roles today: as a crucial Container Terminal. This is where massive vessels from Europe and the Baltics offload containers packed with everything from manufactured goods to household items.
