Welcome back to the "Linux Fundamentals Part 3" room! In this video, we're diving into Task 8 to explore the critical topic of system logs. Logs are a fundamental part of any operating system, providing a detailed history of everything that happens, from routine operations to security events.

Understanding Log Files
In Linux, logs are primarily stored in the /var/log directory. These files contain essential information for monitoring the health of a system, diagnosing problems, and investigating security incidents. They are the first place a system administrator or cybersecurity professional will look to understand what's happening on a machine.

We'll focus on three types of logs:

Web Server Logs (Apache2): We'll examine access.log and error.log to see a record of every request made to a web server. This information is crucial for developers to diagnose performance issues and for security analysts to trace an attacker's steps.

Security Logs (Fail2ban & UFW): These services generate logs that track security-related events, such as failed login attempts and firewall activity. They are key to understanding and defending against attacks like brute-force attempts.

Hands-On: Reading Logs
I'll guide you through a practical exercise on a deployed Linux machine. We'll use the cd and ls commands to navigate to the /var/log/apache2 directory. Then, using the cat command, we'll read the contents of an access log to find key information, such as the IP address of a user who visited the site and the specific file they accessed.
