Tutorial on How to Hold/Use Them Correctly | 10 Things You Should NEVER Do With Chopsticks in Japan

Описание к видео Tutorial on How to Hold/Use Them Correctly | 10 Things You Should NEVER Do With Chopsticks in Japan

Local cuisine is surely one of the most exciting things that you can look forward to when visiting Japan.

However when eating in Japan, people will most likely use chopsticks.Just like how there are table manners in Japan, there are many rules regarding chopsticks too. Having a meal together with someone is considered a very important occasion for communication, and the belief of expressing our appreciation towards the food we eat has existed since long ago.

So today, as a Japanese tea ceremony trainee in Kyoto, I will explain 10 taboos regarding the usage of chopsticks. The most important rules will come last, so I hope you can stay tuned till the end! This video is perfect for those who are willing to visit or live in Japan someday, to learn about the basic table manners in Japan.

However before we start, there are 3 things I want to say.

1. I’m not here to force anyone to follow these rules
2. Many Japanese people make mistakes
or do not know about these rules either
3. Manners are constantly changing, and protecting the old culture is not always correct

I simply wish this video to become a chance for those who are worried about possibly being rude, to get a general image of how you can be an ideal guest. Please don’t be too nervous when you actually sit at the table.
