Among the aircraft being utilized on the Middle Fork Complex are planes often referred to as Scoopers.
The CL-215 and CL-415 aircraft are amphibious planes built specifically to skim the surface of lakes and reservoirs to fill their tanks with water to drop on a fire. Depending on the model, they can carry from about 1,400 to over 1,600 gallons at a time.
On the Middle Fork Complex, they’re filling from Deadwood Reservoir and dropping water on the Nellie Fire.
