• Yves Lafere has one of the absolute best punk voices of all time. He must have melted a lot of microphones singing with that much venom. What a badass. The rest of the crew ain’t no slouches either. They all pummel their gear in proper fashion. What a beast of an EP. Shame they didn’t make more.
• Why they decided to do this as a 12” with a 4min song and a 1.5min on side A and a single 2.5min song on side B instead of a punk perfect 45rpm 7” with the enormous “Bloody Belgium” alone on side A and the other two tracks (equalling 4mins - symmetry!) on side B baffles me. I assume, since I can’t really ask them directly, it was because they wanted the opportunity to stand out from the herd and make a bigger statement with handmade packaging and (annoyingly hard to find) random inserts. Grote zever indeed! Sadly, my copy is missing inserts of any sort and the labels are misprinted with “Side B” on both sides. And what is the point of the numbers on the label above those? They are also wrong. For the longest time, I thought “Stooges” was side 1, especially since it’s only one song. Like maybe that was the single they intended? That’s crazy though. I came around. Then there is the pink vinyl version (limited to 50ish). There is even a version with stenciled cardboard sleeve with a photo glued to the front. Limited to 10 copies? And those are just the Belgian versions from ‘78! There’s even more versions and more confusion. This record is a mess but it ain’t half bad.
