When a Revolver is fired in double-action it means that the trigger both cocks and releases the hammer. There are two double-action variants:

Double-action only (DAO): The trigger both cocks and releases the hammer every time. There is no single-action function.

Double-Action/Single-Action (DA/SA): The hammer can be either cocked manually, so the trigger only releases the hammer (SA) or the trigger can be used in Double-Action, cocking the hammer and releasing it (DA).
