Little Island is a public park in the Hudson River off the coast of Manhattan. It is a unique and innovative park designed as a haven for people and wildlife. The park is supported by 132 pot-shaped structures suspended above the water, which stand on 280 concrete pilings extending into the riverbed. The tops of the pots range from 15 to 62 feet above the mean waterline.

The park covers 2.4 acres and is adorned with lush landscaping, including over 350 species of plants, trees, and flowers. There are also three grass areas, a secret garden, and various performance spaces, including an amphitheater.

Little Island is a great place to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and enjoy the views of Manhattan and the Hudson River. The park is also home to various cultural events, concerts, and performances.

Internet and media mogul Barry Diller (my former boss) and his wife, fashion mogul Diane von Furstenberg, are funding the bulk of the construction cost at $250 million and 20 years of operational costs through their family foundation. What a legacy. The famed Highline is one of their previous efforts.

I was fortunate enough to get an all-access, behind-the-scenes tour of this magnificent park in early January 2021 as it nears completion.
