They Still Live In Caves! | Exploring the Bedouins of Petra Jordan 🇯🇴

Petra, an ancient city in the South of Jordan 🇯🇴, dating 150 BC has had Bedouins living inside caves for generations. Bedouins are a specific group of nomadic Arab people, and their culture is beautiful.

Bedouins are known for their skills with Camels 🐪, their food, and hospitality, and if you ever go to Petra or any Middle Eastern deserts, North Africa, or the Arabian Peninsula and you explore a little, you are very likely to run into some of them, and they will 100% make you drink tea ☕️❤️

Petra has increasingly become more and more touristic because it is shockingly spectacular, especially because of the culture of the Bedouin people who inhabit this Indiana Jones world.

Like any tourist place, Petra has changed. The first big change came when King Hussein of Jordan removed most Beduins living in Petra and replaced them to a village nearby, with the goal of emptying Petra to make it touristic. And it worked.

Many tourists and now influencers since then have discovered this amazing place. Few Bedouin families still live inside, renting camels and selling souvenirs to tourists, and they are clearly the spirit of Petra. Lovely, peaceful and friendly people with huge hearts.

Sadly, in the last few months, there have been attempts to remove the last living bedouins from their caves, because some people believe that Petra should have no one living inside. And in my opinion, this is the biggest mistake, and I want to help them spread the word. If the authorities see that tourists appreciate the presence of Bedouins inside the city then they most likely won't keep trying to remove them, that’s why I am using #KeepPetraAlive to spread the word.
