To investigate the effect of IAA growth regulator on plant growth:
• A stock solution of IAA (Indole acetic acid) is taken and treated to a serial dilution to obtain 7 different concentrations of IAA for the experiment.
• A serial dilution is used to get concentrations that are so small they would be impossible to weigh out.
• Multiple Radish seeds (allow for dud seeds) were then taken and place into 8 agar plates that contained acetate grids (used to measure growth).
• Each of the agar plates was then treated with a different concentration of IAA and one was treated with water (control – which will exhibit normal growth).
• The plates were then placed in an incubator at 25°C for 2-3 days before being removed and the results were noted.
Results: the control had no abnormal growth. The plates that had been treated with high concentrations of IAA increased shoot growth in comparasion to the control. The plates that had been treated with low concentrations of IAA had increased root growth in comparasion to the control.
