TUTORIAL! - PLACE TRAINING
☞ Place/bed/mat is one of the most important skills to teach your dog, so that your dog can relax indoors and outdoors no matter what’s happening around them.

☞ Here’s how we place-trained Ollie and Winks so they can stay in bed indoors and on a cafe mat outdoors.

You will need
✿ Elevated bed - dogs understand boundaries better with an elevation - Our stylish bed is from @apupment
✿ Cafe mat - so they become familiar with it outdoors. We use @madeforhounds water-resistant mat (PR)
✿ Long lead - To help you add distance and have control - ours is @lambwolf.co 6ft lead bought from @furythestore
✿ Dog collar - leather or leather-like collar placed high on the neck, two fingers should be able to pass through - our collar is from @mister.woof (PR)
✿ Toys and other items and methods (visitors, knocking on doors, TV etc.) to add distractions
✿ Treats - No one wants to work for free :) - Our treats are homemade dehydrated chicken breast! Recipe on our blog!

The step-by-step guide to placing training
1. Place the cafe mat on an elevated bed, and attach the long lead to the collar.
2. Lure the pup onto the bed using a treat. Mark only when on the bed. Repeat
3. Continue to give treats on the bed. Lure to a “down”
4. Increase the duration between treats. Repeat until thorough
5. Introduce the command repeat, wean down the treats
6. Increase the distance, duration, and add distractions. The lead can help if you notice your pup stepping out of bed.
7. Practice without the lead
8. Practice without the elevated bed
9. make sure to mark while still on the bed - positively reinforce relaxing on the bed, not coming off of it.
10. Practice in different locations to establish place training outdoors.

This process time and patience to excel. Introduce each step slowly and gradually.
