We began our walk on the famed Prince George Street, a local favourite and a true showcase of autumn colour. As you wander along this quiet, tree-lined street, the canopy above creates a magical tunnel of reds, golds, and fiery oranges. The mix of trees is striking — some still lush and green, others bare and skeletal, with most caught somewhere in between, their leaves mid-transformation in dazzling hues.
From Prince George Street, we turned onto Wentworth Street, another highlight of Blackheath in autumn. The footpaths are sprinkled with fallen leaves, and the soft crunch underfoot is part of the charm. Locals and visitors alike can be seen pausing for photos beneath the golden branches, children playing in leaf piles, and couples soaking in the atmosphere.
A short detour led us into the Blackheath Gardens — a peaceful retreat full of perfectly manicured lawns and, of course, more stunning deciduous trees. Here, the colours seem to glow in the soft light. Benches beneath towering maples invite you to sit and reflect, while the meandering paths offer countless photo opportunities framed by nature’s fiery display.
From the gardens, we briefly walked toward the Great Western Highway, catching a glimpse of the contrast between the busy thoroughfare and the calm beauty just behind us. The hum of passing cars seemed a world away from the serenity we had just enjoyed.
Tempted by the thought of seeing those autumn leaves from another angle, we couldn’t resist heading back along Wentworth Street. The view did not disappoint — the changing light of late afternoon brought out different tones in the foliage, and we noticed details we had missed before. It was a perfect way to end the walk, retracing our steps through a natural corridor of seasonal splendour.
Blackheath in autumn is truly a photographer’s dream and a nature lover’s delight. With deciduous trees gracing nearly every street and park, the entire town becomes a canvas of warm colours and gentle transitions.
