Wilmington Delaware Hoods - Murder Town SMALL BUT DANGEROUS

Today we are in Wilmington, Delaware which is the largest city in the state of Delaware. Like nearby Chester, Pennsylvania it was founded by the Swedes and is in fact the first Swedish settlement in North America.

Wilmington is a small city, overshadowed by the Goliaths around it such as nearby Philadelphia and Baltimore but when there it has it's own big city feel. Today the city has a population of 70,000 down from it's peak of 112,000 in 1940. It's the same sad story with Wilmington as in most other American cities, by 1950 the population began to shrink as companies left for greener pastures elsewhere. However the city's population stabilized in 1980 and has stayed constant for 40 years....essentially being stagnant.

25% of the population falls below the poverty line and crime has historically been an issue as the city consistently ranks as one of America's most dangerous cities. Today we drive around the city's most notorious neighborhoods to get a glimpse into daily life in Wilmington known locally as "Murder Town" .
