Modern observability for your .NET apps with OpenTelemetry by Joao Grassi

Technology and the way we build software have changed a lot over the years. Nowadays, we deploy several times per day, our apps are distributed across the globe, and they need to be fast and be able to handle massive loads. Crazy, right?

But do you know what's even more complex nowadays? Discovering and (hopefully!) fixing issues in such modern applications.

In simple applications, it was easy to discover and solve issues. Add a few log lines to important places across your apps, configure alerts based on them in your tool of choice, and the job is done.

But how do you discover and fix issues when your apps are running and deployed in such heterogeneous, distributed environments? I'm sorry, but I need to break it to you. That sweet log line + alert combo is not going to cut it anymore.

Thankfully for us, the way we discover software issues has also evolved a lot over the years. There's even a shiny "new" tool in the block. Welcome modern observability with OpenTelemetry!

In this talk, I will take you on an observability journey. We will talk about what observability is and how everything is connected with this OpenTelemetry thing. Then, we will see how you can leverage this in your .NET apps, bringing them to the modern era of observability.
