The Joint Danube Surveys (JDS) are the biggest river expeditions of the World, based on amount of parameters that were analysed, number of countries and scientists that participated and supported the actions.
A JDS is carried out once per six years. Four JDSs have been previously conducted – in 2001, 2007, 2013 and 2019, while fifth one is under the preparation for 2025.
JDS catalysed international cooperation of 14 Danubian countries and the European Commission, united through the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR).
The main objectives of the JDSs are:
• To collect reliable, comparable data along the entire Danube;
• To accumulate knowledge specifically on parameters not covered by regular water monitoring; and
• To promote the work on the protection of the Danube – in the academia and the public.
