Extreme drought has gripped the Texas Hill Country for years, taking a severe toll on lake levels at Canyon Lake. Levels there are now under 60 percent full. The forecast is for continued drought across Central and West Texas and hotter-than-usual temps through summer 2024, heat that is being driven primarily by burning fossil fuels and deforestation around the world.
