Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates vs 59/Custom Hybrid Pickup comparison

Swapped out the Pearly Gates for a Custom/59 Hybrid in the bridge of my Washburn MG120. Each sample was recorded via DI and reamped through my Helix with the same patches. No post EQ and minimal compression in Logic.

Guitar is a USA made 25 1/2 inch scale small body super Strat with Mahogany body, Maple top, Maple neck, and rosewood fretboard. Wilkinson 100-VS Tremolo and bolt on neck.

For me the Hybrid is not the right pickup for this already bright guitar. While it has more output, it also has a large mid spike that leads many amps with a "Cocked Wah" sound that is thin and harsh. The bottom end is also lacking compared to the PG. I could however, see this Pup excelling in a darker guitar like a Les Paul or PRS where the extra output and mids would balance with the guitars natural low end to result in a sound that is meaner than vintage but not as harsh as a modern pup.
