As everyone probably knows, White Christians with theologically conservative views are the backbone of the Republican Party, and they are Donald Trump's most loyal voters and followers and donor. But theologically conservative people were not always the backbone of the Republican Party that they are today. They became that way through the work of right- wing Christian media who told them God wanted them to vote Republican.

The days of Jerry Falwell, and Pat Robertson are obviously behind us. But the people who have come after them and have inherited their movement of far right Christian media are very much still among us. And they have enormous audiences, even though for the most part, they are generally unknown to political professionals,  journalists, and political observers alike.  

And so in today's episode, we're going to shine a spotlight on some these figures and the enormous audiences that they have.

Our guide on this is going to be Peter Montgomery. He is a senior fellow with the People for American Way, and he's also one of the writers over at Right Wing Watch, which is an essential website to keep tabs on the beliefs and opinions of the radical Christian right.
