Black womanist scholar the Reverend Dr. Eboni Marshall Turman reflects on the intersection of race, gender, and religion. Dr. Turman, one of the first women to serve at Harlem’s famed Abyssinian Baptist Church, is currently Associate Professor of Theology and African American Religion at Yale Divinity School. She is the author of Toward a Womanist Ethic of Incarnation: Black Bodies, the Black Church, and the Council of Chalcedon.
