This version of the Tequila Old Fashioned was created by Phil Ward while working at the famous Death & Company Bar in NYC. He called this version the Oaxacan Old Fashioned, so you can find it under both names.

This is one of the first popular cocktails to feature mezcal, and really paved the way for many cocktails to feature mezcal as of recent!
